Ken & members,
The xyl is wondering why I'm giggling and laughing out loud. Not sure
she'd understand
if I tried to explain.
Your method has been tried and tested here repeatedly. The thrust bearing
freezes up
when the temp gets below 20 degrees F reliably. On the other hand, my
practice has been
to leave the boom pointed toward the needed DX that's operating currently
when the
weather allows. Would you believe i've climbed the tower in January with a
propane
torch to thaw it out long enough to turn to the needed heading. Murphy's
law certainly
applies here. Sometimes I forget to turn it after the 8 a.m. roundtable.
When that happens
the DX usually is being heard 5x9 by the multitudes and I'm exactly 90
degrees off the
desired beam heading.
