Many moon ago WBZ in Boston on 1030 kHz had one of the strongest signals
on the east coast. The antenna farm was located in a salt marsh.
Maintenance issue, yes, engineering challenge, yes, (at least a pond
doesn't have high and low tides) but RF wise? It worked like a hose...
Reception reports out of Europe were not uncommon and in Philadelphia it
played like a local after dark. I think they acquiesced to the gods of
corrosion in the 70's and moved the stick inland. The budget for
hip-boot waders alone was heuuuuge and sacrificial anodes tend to be
short-lived in a 50 gallon environment...
BTW: In case anyone cares, I will be changing e-mail addresses from
ac5up at vei.net to ac5up at windstream.net in a week or so. Need to set it up
this weekend...
