[OKDXA] FT2000?

Hi John and All:

I took delivery of my FT-2000 about a month ago, and I have been very
pleased with it so far. I am fussy about receive performance, so that is my
main criterion of evaluation.

Most of my operation is CW, but I made a few SSB contacts with it, too. It
is a definite cut above the FT-1000MP MK V. The roofing filters help cut
out noise and IMD garbage, although it is not as quiet as an Orion. I also
like the flexibility in terms of separate inputs for SSB, RTTY, and
"Packet." The menu system is extensive (CW waveform, parametric EQ for SSB,
etc.), although I have not altered much from the default settings.

How much do I like the rig? There was a fellow looking to swap a new
FT-2000 (aren't they all?) for an Orion, and we worked out a deal. He likes
the Orion better, and I like the 2000 better. I just unpacked the new 2000
and was listening: same great receive quality.

Whether I will keep both 2000s, I don't know. I was toying with the idea of
SO2R, but I also realize that I am more interested in DX than contesting.

If anyone is interested, I can give more information later, when I've had a
chance to "wring it out" fully.

73,
Bill, N5TU

Any members using the new Yaesu FT2000, and if so,
care to comment on its performance so far?
