Guys:

Six Meters was open last night. There was a good bit of DX on yesterday on
the "Magic Band", but I did not get on until 8:30 local time last night.
Coy Day, N5OK, had sent out an e-mail yesterday stating that he was working
all kinds of DX on six, but I missed out on the DX. (And again this
morning)

But I did have a blast on Six Meters last night. I worked Tom Williams,
N5TNT, here in Jones County and I hope he went up frequency and worked a lot
of stations. In one hour last night I made 33 Q's, worked 17 states, and 30
grid squares. Out of these contacts I picked up 11 new grids for a total of
222 and 2 new states for a total of 43 states. I picked up North Dakota and
Washington for new states. I got on 50.136 and called CQ and had some very
nice and in some cases, long QSO's with folks. It was really wild because
most of the time I had the beam pointed at 300 degrees, to the West
Northwest, and I was working folks in the Northeast and folks on the West
Coast. Here are the states I worked last night: Arizona, California,
Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi,
North Carolina, North Dakota, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, South
Carolina, Virginia, and Washington. I talked to KC5SFV from Albuquerque for
about 15 or 20 minutes and he was from Collins, MS and graduated from high
school with one of our Sales Mangers here at Sanderson Farms. I told him
that I had been in Collins yesterday surveying the new Feed Mill we are
building for phones and computers.

It was really fun on Six Meters last night and I had a great time. I think
I get as big a kick out of working a new grid or state on this band as I do
working a new DX entity. Bernie McClenny, W3UR, called me on Six Meters at
0208 Zulu last night and we talked for a few minutes and my beam was
pointing out west. I just wish I could get in on some of the DX on this
band that everyone is working. But, when you are at work all day it makes
it kind of hard to work the DX.

I guess it will add to the barage of cards I am getting on Six Meters. I
have a stack that I need to mail off myself but have not taken the time to
put in the mail. I think there are 32 cards that I already have labels
placed on and ready to mail. I bought a roll of stamps to send out the
SASE's for all of these cards. Maybe I will work on them tonight if I have
time and the band is not open again. I have to get things ready to head to
the farm tomorrow night. I have to get the riding mower loaded up so we can
mow grass over there.

You guys keep an ear open to Six Meters, the magic wand might pass over your
antenna and great openings will appear at any time. Get on the band and
enjoy the openings. I hope to hear about your success on this fun band.
Who would have thought that at the bottom of the solar cycle that we would
have this much activity on this band. As always, good hunting!

73,
Alan, N5PA
