Guys:
Did you hear VU7LD yesterday? I worked them on 20 meter CW at 1444Z (8:44
a.m. CST) yesterday morning even though their signals peaked about an hour
later. There have only been four other people in Mississippi that have
worked them and most of them were in the southern half of the state. Walt
Hopper, K5VV, in Hernando; John Bergman, KC5LK, in Brandon; George Hancock,
N5GH, in Florence; and Glenn Lowery, K2FF, in Ocean Springs, have worked
them on 20 meter phone. They worked CW until about 9:15 yesterday morning
and then QSY'd to 14.300, right in the middle of a 20 meter net. It was a
REAL madhouse! I hope you can pick them up!
I worked a little bit of the 160 meter CW contest. I think I made 191
contacts in 51 sections, and four or five DX countries. I worked 41 unique
states. I worked a couple of Okies including W5TM. I saw where Ed had a
good list of DX, way to go! My inverted-v just does not work well for DX on
160.
The guys on the east coast are working VU7LD on 17 meters this morning.
They are on 18.145 listening on 18.155. Maybe I can catch them on this band
this weekend. I doubt I will be able to work them at night. From 8:30 a.m.
until about 10:30 a.m. is the peak time to work them here. The best time on
20 meters is at 10:00 a.m. according to W6ELProp. I saw N4PJ and W3UR
worked them on 17 meters a few minutes ago. Maybe Coy can pick them up on
this band. The guy in Hernando that worked them on phone yesterday said he
was running 500 watts to a rhombic at 70 feet. He was surprised that they
heard him. I still say that they are hearing much better than they are
getting out.
I hope you guys are in there now working them on a new band! It will be
this weekend before I can give it another shot here. At least I have them
on 20 meter CW and SSB now. Good Hunting!
73,
Alan, N5PA
