The following was forwarded to me from Jess N4HPL the A sorter
for the bureau. An effort to assist the Hams affected by
Hurricane Katrina that I thought might be of interest. Several
of the bureau sorters are members of the MDXA the club that
handled W5 bureau chores for the four years prior to the OKDXA
taking on the task three years ago.

Everyone,
My records indicate the only MDXA member still unaccounted for
after Hurricane Katrina is Charlie Otnott, WD5BJT of Clermont
Harbor (QTH less than 5 miles from Waveland). If anyone knows
of his status please relay.
Of the remaining members living along the Coastal counties,
between four and five individuals either had their home
completely destroyed, were severely flooded, and/or lost
practically everything. In an effort to help those few members
who ultimately took the worst blows, the club is taking the
following actions to at least help a little:
- Larry (K4WLS) is posting a personal $500 contribution to
start the ball rolling.
- The club members who had planned to make an October IOTA trip
to Dauphin Island will now instead put that $250 towards this
effort.
- Keith (W5AV) is graciously supplying each of the effected
members with a free refurbished Pentium desktop
computer/monitor.
Some of you have asked me how you can help. If you would like
to make a cash donation of any amount then please feel free to
do so. Or, if you would like to donate an HF rig/antenna then
I'm sure these DXers would appreciate that just as much.
A target date to split and hand over the donated
funds/equipment will hopefully be sometime in October or
November. So simply mail, call, or e-mail me if you would like
to contribute in any shape, form, or fashion.
Once again, hams helping hams!
