[OKDXA] Possible Packet Cluster Node

The National Severe Storms Laboratory (where I work) will be moving to the
new Weather Center sometime around the 2005-2006 time frame. The Weather
Center will have a tower on the roof whose overall height will be something
like 150' above the ground. It may be possible to install a DX Packet
Cluster node in the Weather Center with an antenna at the top of the tower
and have access to the Big Pipe that feeds the Weather Center data. I have
a radio I'd donate to the cause, and would even consider a 70 cm 9600 bps
system. I don't know what the coverage would be from here, but with an
antenna on a modest tower, I'd expect the coverage would be modest, as in
most of OKC to the north and an equivalent distance everywhere else.
We'd have the best chance of pulling this off if something were installed
here (at NSSL or possibly NWS) before the move, as then it would constitute
a "legacy" system. We'd have to supply the hardware and software, but they
would supply the housing, electricity and data feed. Is there any interest
in this from OKDXA?
