Another clue that the spindle is slipping is when you eject a disc and it's
still spinning in the tray as it comes out.
On the Toshiba it hits 'reverse' to stop the disc just before it ejects.
When the spindle was slipping it wouldn't stop and likely failed the Track
Zero init since the spindle servo was reporting 'up to speed' to the
processor while the physical disc was somewhere between zero and infinity.
Amazing how such a complicated device can fail on such a simple fault, but
when you look inside a newer DVD player there's not much to see aside from
the mechanicals, power supply, and one very densely packed PC board with NO
adjustments...!
