SHOCKING !!!
At least I'm in a subdivision with underground utilities. Might not make any
difference during the dry months, but it couldn't hurt.
BTW: I was absolutely floored when I wandered over to the H.O.W. Foundation
thrift store in BA this afternoon and scored one of these in well-used but
tolerable condition for a paltry $45.00... Going price on the web for
better-condition-than-mine is around $500.

That's serious video gear, Gen'l Dave. SONY BVH-500 SMPTE 'Type C' 1"
portable field recorder. 12 volts @ 5 amps. I haven't put power to it yet,
just pulled the covers to look around at the innards. It's seen a little
moisture while in storage but is giving me the vibe that it's not exactly
dead. All late 70's TTL logic and the rows of socketed chips go on forever.
Biggest catch on these is the 'abbreviated playback electronics... It's a
boatanker as is in the 40lb range, adding full playback would have just made
it more of a beast. There was an outboard color processor box for frame-sync
color playback and they've been known to pop up on eBay. Just a matter of
time before I see one. It may do color playback as is, but without genlock
capability. I'd be such a Happy camper if it does...
Then again, if it doesn't work out, I might just clean it up well enough to
make it a display item and call it good. Always wanted one because they
worked _reel_ good back in the day. ;-]
