[OKDXA] It's the VHF time of year...

For the past few days I've been hearing KRNB on 105.7 in the FM broadcast
band with signal levels ranging anywhere from down in the noise to full
quieting in mono. Not bad considering there's at least 250 air miles between
Decatur, TX and Broken Arrow, OK and I'm using a test lead as an antenna.
Also hearing stations in Ft. Smith, AR and Wichita, KS fairly well. This is
not Sporadic-E, just hot & humid air doing its thing. Best reception tends
to be in the morning and late evenings when the humidity is highest, but
midday was working well today and it's muggy out there. The low end of the
band (88 to 92 MHz) is loaded with sigs every 200 kHz that I normally
wouldn't hear.

Note to N5UW: Receiver of the moment is a Pioneer SX-980 I snagged at the
Goodwill store for a paltry $30.00... It's at least 25 years old but looks
and plays like it's been out of the box for only a few months. Like you,
it's remarkably well preserved, has a dandy RF section and is considered a
collectors item. ;-]

Run the make and model through the completed auctions search engine at eBay
and you'll be amazed at what some folks are willing to pay for one. ( ! )
