This isn't exactly an answer to the question of dual-box RX, but on the
IC-756 series from Icom the dual receive feature includes a audio pan-pot
that allows you to listen to either VFO or mix the two together... Works
like the balance control on a stereo. One VFO can be set louder than the
other if desired or the relative balance can be adjusted to compensate for
signal strength. The headphone jack is wired for standard stereo phones, but
I don't think they took the extra step of a stereo amplifier to put one VFO
in your left ear while the other is on the right. Wouldn't surprise me if
someone like Yaesu or Kenwood has done that...

As an alternate, any rig capable of working split should have a button that
flips the split. A little finger work could have you jumping back and forth
between the two for pseudo dual RX. (?)

In case anyone cares, yes, I'm still alive, no, I haven't made a single Q
all year, yes, I'm going through a phase where the radio thing is
low-priority, and yes, this started last January when I tore the shack apart
to do some painting and haven't plugged the rigs back in since... Can't say
why, but I'll get a round tuit some day... The license hasn't lapsed and I
doubt if I'll slack off that far since I do like the call. [-;
