I just finished talking to Yaesu to see if they had a document about the
modifications to the FT-1000MP Mark-V for the new 5-Meter Band. NO, they =
do
not have anything yet because they have not gotten the legal written
document from the FCC concerning the new band. They are not completely =
sure
how they will accomplish this yet, but preliminary results show that =
they
will have to replace the Low Pass Filter (LPF) Unit because it will not =
pass
the 5-Meter frequencies. Also, they will have to put new firmware in the
radio. This entails replacing a surface mount chip with over 100 leads. =
So,
if you plan on operating on the new 5-Meter band it looks like your =
Yaesu
brand radio will have to go back to Yaesu for modification. This is not =
the
final plan, but it looks like the radio will have to make a trip back to
Yaesu. If this is like other Yaesu repairs, this will probably mean your
radio will be gone for six weeks. There is no hidden menu to turn this =
on.
Sorry!
