As you know, Lee, N5PO, was to operate from Vietnam during the CQWW CW
Contest. I received the following note from him regarding the trip
Hi Jim,
I got home on December 4th. I am just now beginning to recover. It does
not bother me going to Asia, but really gets to me when I come home. I
am tired all day and cannot sleep at night. HI
Well the trip, as far as Ham radio was concerned, was a complete washout.
First My laptop went out the day I got there, then the radio , A FT900,
that I was going to operate in the Hotel was broken. It would not key with
the internal keyer or an external key. So I went over to Bac AI's (XV2A)
place and tryed to operate from there. He has a nice and clean shack,
but his equipment is old. A old FT757 with no cw filter and a FL2100 AMP.
He does have a good antenna system, a 4 ele tri-bander and wires for
other bands. But his radio is NG so I only made a few contacts and give
up on it. Eddy, XV9DT, called me from Hanoi and said I could come up
and operate from his place, but that was about a 1,000 mile trip and
400 more bucks. So I just relaxed, did some sight seeing and took it
easy.
