And now... For 'The Rest Of The Story'...

I don't know why it works this way, but I have never driven straight to
Chandler Park. Coming home is no problem at all, but getting there always
involves a little adventure. Seems like I usually end up on the four-lane
highway that runs past the Berryhill School and the Sand Springs water
tower. For Field Day this year I was able to find a cross-road that took me
where I needed to be, but not this time. Got out of work at 6, ran home to
vote, inhaled a Happy Meal in Bixby, then ended up in Sand Springs
(Hellloooooo....) driving past the water tower.

Wrong.

Ended up on Highway 97 headed North, then saw the turn for Avery Drive in
'the other lane'. Made a quick U-Bee and scooted east on Avery Drive which
is one of my favorite roads in the area. It has hills, turns, trees, rock
formations... It's a stretch of asphalt that actually demands your
attention, unlike most of Oklahoma built on the straight & flat model. After
a few miles of playing Euro-Driving, I made it to the park in good time to
hand out flyers and catch Gen'l Dave doing the auction portion of the
festivities. What a hoot. I came home with an SWR meter that reads a perfect
1:1 match when it's not hooked to anything, so we know it's a good one, and
a Ranger RCI-2950 10 Meter all-mode rig that, as Gen'l Dave said, is very
"versatile". What a salesman. He also squeezed top-dollar out of a dual-band
HT that we're told can work Newfoundland (or Europe, same place, right?) if
you have a plane ticket...

Please be advised that at no time during my travels did I feel the need to
use the shoulder of any road or place the transmission in reverse... That's
the 'ATV Method. I'm also pleased to report there were no injuries while "
The 'DLL " was feeding. Apparently all of the TARC Membership has learned to
recognize that giant sucking sound and knows when to back off...

A good time was had by all, and, as I've been known to say...

" We ain't really stupid, we just act that way... "
