About a month ago I was seeking some help with my Heathkit SB-221.
The response was great and resources for 221s were available,so I set forth
to improve the old gal.
Once all the latest and greatest goodies were installed oh boy time to power
up.
Humm wonder why the circuit breakers keep popping?
Took it apart and went step by step don't see any problems, powered up and
zzzaap!
You would think an extra worth their salt could figure out a Heathkit.
So when the Heath instructions tell you to put the High voltage caps this
way and its all good, wait these are not Heathkit caps.
This means (you probably guessed by now) that the plus got hooked up to
ground and, Crud.
Yah when I hooked it up correctly everything went smoothly (oh yah) tuning
reaching peak KAPOW! Yep the HV caps had enough idotizeing and went south.
Ah the good news is a new set of caps are on the way.
And I found a unassembled Heathkit SB-221 with the parts to convert it to
220 spec.
Yes it is "dumb" luck.
hope to see you soon 73s all.
