Coy:

Agreed on all counts. Catastrophic failure of a feed line is rare to
non-existant and I've cut off more than a few PL-259's because I did a poor
solder job on them... Something about a stiff breeze on a cold day tends to
reduce my level of craftsmanship when I'm sitting on the ground with the
cable draped over my knee.

I've seen small football shaped holes in the outer sheath of 'bargain'
RG-213 where an air bubble in the PVC got past quality control and one of my
earliest installs featured a big drip loop rubbing against a brick wall.
After a few years of Oklahoma wind, the brick won. More common is a slow
deterioration of the feedline that's all too easy to blame on band
conditions... You just don't get out like you used to. Must be condx, you
think, until you turn on your 'other' radio and it's hearing way more than
the good rig.

Since I'm a real fan of work avoidance, I've learned it's often cheaper to
use the good stuff up front and be done with it. The LMR has held up
extremely well and that's probably what I like most about it. Follow that up
with taking the time to do it right and you'll be giving your setup every
possible chance to perform its best, and that's important when The 'DLL is
working the one you've been calling for the past five minutes...
