Greetings fellow OKDXA members:

Saturday,  November 16 has been declared by Governor Keating as Amateur Radio 
day in Oklahoma.  This is statehood day and the Edmond Amateur Radio Society 
will be operating a special event station that day from Guthrie.  Details 
below and hope to work some of you.

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT


Proclamation

Whereas, the Oklahoma Amateur Radio will be operating a special event station 
from Guthrie, OK which is the site of the first capitol of the State of 
Oklahoma.  Contacts are planned with other Amateur Radio operators throughout 
the United States and other parts of the world;

Whereas, more than 8,700 citizens of the State of Oklahoma have been licensed 
by the Federal Communications Commission as Amateur Radio operators. These 
dedicated volunteers, also known as HAMS, have been providing vital 
supplemental communications to their communities during times of natural 
disasters, in local emergencies and at public events since the earliest days 
of wireless radio; and 

Whereas,  HAMS greatly assist local, state and federal agencies in meeting 
the needs of Oklahoma citizens during times of disaster; and

Whereas, these HAMS work without compensation in the best interest of the 
State of Oklahoma as well as the world; and 

Whereas, HAMS are on the alert for any local or global emergency.  They 
practice their communication skills during the course of the year including 
the America Radio Relay League's Field Day exercise; and 

Whereas,  Amateur Radio promotes international goodwill, encourages young 
people to pursue an education and careers in scientific, engineering or 
liberal arts fields, and expands the state of the art in communication  and 
electronics through experimentation;

Now Therefore, I Frank Keating, Governor of the State of Oklahoma do hereby 
proclaim November 16, 2002 as

Press Release

On Saturday,  November 16, 2002 the Edmond Amateur Radio Society (EARS) will 
have a Special  Event recognizing Oklahoma State Hood Day. On this same date 
in 1907 Oklahoma became a State.  The event will be held in Guthrie, OK which 
is the site of the first capitol of Oklahoma.  Amateur Radio contacts are 
planned with Amateur Radio operators throughout the United States and beyond. 
Governor Frank Keating has proclaimed November 16, 2002 as Amateur Radio day 
in Oklahoma. This to recognize Amateur Radio's public service to the citizens 
of Oklahoma in times of disasters.    Approximately 30 members of the EARS 
will be participating in this event. It will be held at the State Capitol 
Publishing Museum,  2nd and Harrison, in Guthrie.
