I hadn't considered the 6 Meter angle, but 10 watts is workable when there's
a good E-Layer opening. I've worked plenty of stations running the Ten-Tec
transverter at 8 watts or less.

I thought it was interesting that RadioShack is using eBay to move their
disco inventory, and at < $400 for an all-mode HF rig new in the box, it's
worth a click. The Alinco's got good reviews in QST a few years back. It's
an orphan today, but priced accordingly and could be a cheap way to go HF
mobile...
