ELMERS NEEDED
We have all had one or more Elmers in our Ham Radio Careers. There is no
way we can repay those special people directly for what they provided to us.
What they provided us is priceless. The only way we can repay that debt is
to provide the same support to someone else, be an Elmer.
The Oklahoma DX Association is offering to provide a service to the general
population in Oklahoma as well as the Ham Radio community by providing a
means to get Elmers connected with individuals who need help getting a
license, upgrading, or getting on the air. Clif, N5UW, has volunteered to
be an Elmer Coordinator for the State. He will compile and maintain a list
of Elmer volunteers and will be available to provide Elmer information to
anyone needing a little help. He will also post the list on the OKDXA Web
Site so that anyone can access it anytime. There will also be a list of VE
exam sites and times on the Web Site.
At this time, we are looking for those Hams who will volunteer to help
someone in their respective geographic area. By volunteering, you are not
making a commitment to help anyone anytime. You will determine how much you
are available to help. Also, you can specify what type of help you can
provide. Basic theory, basic CW, high speed CW, antennas, and operating
skills are areas that come to mind. Maybe you just provide a station where
ham radio can be demonstrated.
Think of the gift you can give to someone. You may start a young person on
a fabulous electronics career, or give thousands of hours of company to a
physically impaired person, or make a friend for the rest of your life.
Please consider sending your call, name and phone number to Clif at
[email protected], or mail it to Clif Sikes, Rt. 2, Box 120, Earlsboro, OK
74840; phone 405-275-9087 (a Shawnee/ Oklahoma City number).
We need to know about your VE exams also.
Please pass this note along to all your friends and place it in club
bulletins or bulletin boards.
