Gents:
Knowing that KD5DLL plans to attend the banquet is reason enough to make
reservations, if only for the entertainment value. Those of you who receive
the TARC newsletter will understand what I mean by that 'real soon'. Since
we're promoting the banquet without the benefit of the C&E readership this
year, we will need to work at it a little differently.

Bob, K5SIT:
Please whip up a little something for the web page giving everything a
person would need to know if they plan to attend. Where, when, what and how
to reserve a seat or two. Here's a draft of what a press release would
include: (I lifted some of this from last September's newsletter. If there
are changes, please edit as needed!)

" The Oklahoma DX Association will be holding their annual Awards Banquet on
Saturday evening, October 12th at the Bristow Public Library in downtown
Bristow, OK and all Radio Amateurs are invited! Space is limited to the
first 60 reservations with none sold at the door. Reservations are $10.00
per person in advance and must be received no later than Friday, October
4th. The festivities will start at 5:00 PM with entertainment from Side By
Side, a Sweet Adelines Quartet at 5:30 PM. The catered buffet-style BBQ
dinner will begin serving at 6:00 PM.

At 7:00 PM there will be a brief meeting that will include the OKDXA awards
presentation, followed by our special guest San Hutson, K5YY, whom we're
told is quite handy with a VFO. His accomplishments include: 11 solo
DX'peditions with 100,000 QSO's, Top DXCC Honor Roll for many years, former
DXAC Chairman, CQ DX Hall of Fame 1983, several VUCC awards, #24 on 144 -
#21 on 432 WAS on 2 and 6 Meters, presently with 486 grids confirmed on 2
Meters - WAZ 3.8 SSB #29, 6BDXCC, and #18 for DXCC on 160 Meters. From DC to
Daylight, San has worked 'em. He was also there for the June 2002 BW4/K5YY
operation and made 21,000 QSOs with the BQ9P Pratas Island team DX'pedition,
June 3-12th. San will also bring a nice collection of slides from his
DX'peditions for your enjoyment. If you've ever wanted to spend an evening
with someone who really puts the capital 'H' in 'Ham Radio', this is one
opportunity you won't want to miss!

Bristow is an easy drive from both OKC and Tulsa on the Turner Turnpike,
I-44: TAKE I-44 TO THE BRISTOW EXIT. GO WEST ON ROUTE 66 TO 7th STREET, THEN
TURN RIGHT AT THE LIGHT AND GO ONE BLOCK. THE LIBRARY IS ON THE SOUTH SIDE
OF THE STREET ACROSS FROM THE POLICE STATION. IF YOU GET LOST, JUST LOOK FOR
THE 150 FOOT POLICE RADIO TOWER AND YOU WILL FIND IT!

For details, visit the OKDXA web page at http://www.qsl.net/okdxa/ or write
to Jerry Chouinard, K5YAA - 4744 East Heather Drive - Claremore, OK 74017.
( [email protected] ) Please make your reservation check payable to "OKDXA" and
include a note if you're a member paying your dues on the same check. The
OKDXA is the only state-wide Amateur Radio association in Oklahoma and
sponsors the Oklahoma QSO Party held every March. Our members include some
of the top DX'ers in the state and if you're interested in the DX Arts, or
any aspect of Amateur Radio, this is an event well worth attending. We hope
to see you there for an evening of 'Radio-Active' fun! "

I plan to whip up a tout sheet for handout at the Choctaw ARC Swap on
September 14th in Midwest City, and it won't hurt a thing if the folks on
the OKC side would do the same at your next local ARC meeting. --- Get the
word out --- A sheet of paper remembers longer than a quick announcement and
goes home with you. Contact your local newsletter editor(s) and key up on
your local VHF nets to apply the S-2 Rule: Anybody who copies you at an S-2
or better, INVITE THEM TO THE BANQUET... I'm sure Tulsa's fav-o-rite Net
Controls, KB5BQB and W5ATV, will demonstrate how well this can work. You
know what to do.

We had a terrific banquet last year, no reason why we can't do the same this
year.
