All, there is still a need for ham operators and other volunteers for the upcoming Marathon.

Two registrations are needed.  1- Marathon volunteer, 2- Ham operator signup.

The signup links and screenshots of the pages are shown below.

Read through the entire email first so you see what the content is.  Then register.  Any problems, contact the coordinators below.

The Marathon website obviously has the information for the race.  You can sign up for the Saturday 5K and/or the Sunday full and half Marathon as listed.

The Ham website has the instructions and menus for the assignments and frequencies.  If you are new to the Marathon, there will be a planning meeting on January 3. 9-11 AM at Transtar.  Instructions follow in another email.

Subject: 2026 Houston Marathon – Request for Amateur Radio Volunteers - Houston Marathon (January 11, 2026) - Amateur Radio Positions

Message Date: September 18, 2025

Dear Mark Landress,  WB5ANN

I thank each of you for your contributions to the success of the Chevron Houston Marathon, the Aramco Half Marathon, and the We Are Houston 5K race events from 2019 through 2025 as part of the Amateur Radio Operations. I ask you to assist again with the 2026 events.

Amateur Radio Operators, please volunteer for the 2026 Chevron Houston Marathon and associated events during the weekend of January 10 & 11, 2026. It is the Houston Marathon’s 54th Year!

§  2026 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half-Marathon are on SUNDAY, January 11, 2026

§  We Are Houston 5K Run is on Saturday, January 10, 2026

The 2026 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half-Marathon (SUNDAY, January 11, 2026) need the participation of over 120 Amateur Radio Operators to fully staff positions and provide public service communications and related race-related operational support. On Saturday, January 10, 2026, the We Are Houston 5K Run provides an opportunity to test our radio equipment for Sunday and the event requires about 40- 65 operators.

This is the 54th consecutive year for this event. Amateur Radio Operators are an integral part of the Public Safety and race management activities to help ensure the safety and welfare of the runners and an uncounted number of spectators watching the race.  This year, 32,000 participants, 6,000 volunteers, and 250,000 spectators are expected.

NOTE: BOTH AMATEUR RADIO REGISTRATION WEBSITES ARE UPDATED VERSIONS OF THE 2025 REGISTRATION WEBSITES.  DO NOT USE previous year’s Houston Marathon Official (VolunteerLocal) website link as it may bring you to previous year’s event, not 2026!

Amateur Radio Operator Registration

The sequence/ order for this year’s registration is changed from previous year’s registration sequence.  When you click the registration link, you will be sent to the following page.  Begin the process by entering your First Name and Email.  If you have participated since 2024, your previous information should be retrieved, but I experienced having to reenter some of my details.  After filling in your personal details, you will be guided through the waiver process BEFORE BEING ALLOW TO SELECT YOUR SHIFT(S).

Please sign up as soon as you can, even though the event seems so far in the future!   If you sign up promptly, you will help make the administrative processes smoother.  I have learned by experience that the apparel order is placed in late October or early November.  Being registered, you will be part of the registrants who will get apparel of the size you want and hence, most likely it will fit you!

AI-generated content may be incorrect. The “hmhams site” enables you to provide Amateur Radio specific information required for a “ham” Houston Marathon assignment.  This site allows you to provide your available equipment details, to request specific assignments, and to provide ham radio details not permitted by the official Marathon VolunteerLocal web site.  Please ensure that your email is correct. This is important when Amateur Radio related information is being distributed later.   The hmhams.org website includes instructions on how to register with the Houston Marathon Volunteer web site for Amateur Radio Operators.
