Houston Marathon Ham Volunteer Orientation
Please attend this coordination/ training meeting to discuss the latest developments associated with the 2026 Houston Marathon event. This coordination meeting is to share knowledge and to ensure coordination among net control station, key personnel Race Official, Sector Captain and other Course Official shadows, SAG stations/ Medical stations operators, and Refueling station operators, lead pack and timing functions participants, APRS and asset location resources available. Our goal is to enable Hams to communicate, advise, and inform stakeholders of pertinent information and to positively affect the marathon’s success.
Agenda
· SIGN IN, PICK UP YOUR MARATHON CREDENTIALS, PARKING, OFF COURSE ACCESS PLACARDS, SHIRTS, AND HAT! You will avoid making a race day stop to retrieve these items.!
· 2026 Houston Marathon Overview Information
· Frequency/ Net Plan Updates
· Crossband Repeat Operations (if you need CB, please coordinate with Rick Broussard, N5KJN)
· Security and Areas of Concern
· Summary of Updates to the Operations Manual
· Changes in Marathon set-up/ layout from previous years
· Unified Command Center (UCC) Operations Summary and Information Flow
· Shadow Position – Procedures, Staff Responsibility changes,
· MEDICAL Station and SAG STOP Queue Operational Information Gathering & Use
· Review of Safety and Medical protocols
· Lead Pack/ Timing Net
· APRS & Course Tracking (TRACAR & Commercial)
· Race Asset location resources available to Hams for advising stakeholders.
· Handling of Press or high-profile queries
· Review of any previously known problems (to avoid for 2026)
· Address any other issues/ Handle any other business
· Answer any questions that you may have?
· Meet your functional team members
· Answer radio programming and operating questions
