Space Houston On Ten members:
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
This is Mike N5MT Chapter head of 1010 Houston SHOT Net 28488 Tu 8pm.
We will not be having a weekly net for Christmas Eve or New Years Eve this year.
The check-ins on the weekly net are a lot less the past few months.
Al N5XZ has been net control but now is having trouble with his big antenna.
I ckin on one of two remote stations owned by Pat KJ5Y as I live in Louisiana.
I am still looking for someone local in Houston to take my place as 1010 Houston SHOT Chapter head since I no longer live in Houston.
I moved to LA after hurricane Harvey flooded my house a few years ago and I sold the house and took down the tower/station. That is why I am using the remote station to ckin to the weekly net which does not always happen as the remote does go down.
We are all getting older so someone younger needs to take my place.
There have only been two chapter heads for the 50+ years of SHOT.
WB5FII Bob Libbers gave it up about 35 years ago and he went SK in 2005.
Bob I think was one ot the original dozen members that started the net in maybe 1972? I came along as a 1010 member in 1979 and Bob gave it to me in maybe 1990? So I have had the job a few years longer than him but its time to let someone else take over
as CHead. As I do many jobs for 1010, I have tried to keep Houston going as an active chapter since I moved. Chead is an easy job with only a requirement that you report the net activity at least once a year as required by 1010 rules to keep its active
status. Else it goes EXT.
SHOT holds several records for the most points scored during QSO parties with one party we had about 72 participants locally. A lot of SK members are on the membership rolls so that record will never get broken by us again. Membership is 472 locally and
1435 Non-locals. So Houston has 1907 hams on the spreadsheet that I keep as a membership list. The SK count is unknown.
That's the year end report for Houston SHOT.
Please help continue the chapter so it can survive for another 10-25 years!
Thanks. Mike Davidson N5MT 24949.
