It was a hot weekend but I had lots of fun! We had 20 people show up. iVisitors included 2 from Spring that took the Tech exam that morning (they passed) , 2 park rangers, and the ARRL South Texas traffic manager.
Several of our club members sent word last week they would not be at the park ... Health concerns from heat or illness and travelling for work. They did the right thing ..... Safety comes first! Paycheck too!
We helped some folks get on the HF airwaves for the first time or the first time in a long while. Mark and Steve were great mentors helping the newcomers succeed.
Our contact list is not real long ... 20m was upset and 40m was about dead. There was a geomagnetic storm on saturday that really stirred up the ionosphere. BUT we will get bonuses for emergency power, solar power (for each radio), ARRL rep, and served agency ... The park rangers.
The Rangers were interested in amateur radio as a backup when the park radio system is down. The fellows from Spring need amateur radio for the emergency relief group the work with.
If you worked FD from home please submit a lot and credit Oak Forest ARC ad your affiliated club.
I think I will focus on winter field day next year and let others do summer.
