2025 Houston Marathon - December Request for Amateur Radio Volunteers -
Marathon (January 19, 2025) - Amateur Radio Positions
Message Date: December 21, 2024
Dear Mark Landress, WB5ANN
If you have already signed up as part of the Amateur Radio Operations thank
you. If you have not yet volunteered, I ask you to register and assist in
the 2025 events. We are less than ONE month away from the 2025 Houston
Marathon, and we need more HAMS to fill all of our spots!
Amateur Radio Operators, please volunteer for the 2025 Chevron Houston
Marathon and associated events during the weekend of January 18 & 19 2025.
It is the Houston Marathon's 53rd Year!
* 2025 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half-Marathon is on SUNDAY,
January 19, 2025
* We Are Houston 5K Run is on Saturday, January 18, 2025
The 2025 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half-Marathon (SUNDAY, January
19, 2025) needs the participation of over 100 Amateur Radio Operators to
fully staff Ham positions and provide public service communications and
related race related operational support. I currently have 50-ish volunteers
for Sunday.
On Saturday, January 18, 2025, the We Are Houston 5K Run provides an
opportunity to test our radio equipment for Sunday and the event requires
about 30- 65 operators.
NOTE: HAMS with Course assignments WILL NOT be asked to cover both the
Refueling (Water) Station and the Medical/ SAG stop in 2025 (UNLIKE IN 2023
AND 2024). In 2025 your assignment will be either one or the other. Based
on your feedback and reviewing operational results, the practice of covering
both spots did not work well overall. While the course services are
"co-located" for a 26.2-mile athlete, most Refueling/ Medical sites span two
or more blocks and are impractical for one amateur radio operator to cover.
Amateur Radio Operator Registration
NOTE: BOTH AMATEUR RADIO REGISTRATION WEBSITES ARE UPDATED VERSIONS OF THE
2024 REGISTRATION WEBSITES. DO NOT USE previous year's Houston Marathon
Official (VolunteerLocal) website link as it may bring you to previous
year's event, not 2025!

The hmhams site enables you to provide Amateur Radio specific information
required for a "ham" Houston Marathon assignment. This site allows you to
provide your available equipment details, to request specific assignments,
and provide ham radio details not permitted by the official Marathon
VolunteerLocal web site. Please ensure that your email is correct. This is
important when Amateur Radio related information is being distributed later.
The hmhams.org website includes instructions on how to register with the
Houston Marathon Volunteer web site for Amateur Radio Operators.
