Jose, thanks for the great information. Hurricane season is here and we are always looking for ways to reduce risk for our members and the community to exposures from hazardous materials including asbestos that may become exposed during a hurricane event. Since we work in the Houston area, home to major industrial, chemical and petroleum facilities, several of our members work with hazardous materials including lead, asbestos, radioactive materials and other wastes.

OFARC is a non-profit public service organization of radio operators active in the Houston area. We support, through our members and club affiliations, more than 30 radio repeaters critical to communications used in the immediate aftermath of disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and fires. We are supported by donations that go to maintaining our website, radio repeater equipment, insurance, organizational and public service outreach activities critical during disasters.

Given the extensive and apparently well-funded partner network that asbestos.com has for its mesothelioma outreach, and the potential benefits to the partner network related to traffic from our website from individuals who are within the demographic and latency period for exposure to asbestos, for a donation of $1,000 (one thousand US dollars) we would be glad to post your information on our website for a period of 1 year, renewable annually on the anniversary date of the donation.

Please make your donation payable to:

Oak Forest Amateur Radio Club

3410 Mercer, Houston, TX 77027

Attn: Treasurer

Please use the attached form as appropriate to document your donation.

Bank checks, business checks, certified checks, US Postal Money Orders and cash are accepted.

Alternatively we accept radio equipment, gift cards, and other radio-related items of equivalent value in lieu of monetary donations.

Thank you for your interest in the Oak Forest Amateur Radio Club. We look forward to your donation.

Hi Mark & Martin & Jeremy,

I hope this email finds you well. I saw you had other hurricane resources listed and thought our guide could help those in need.

I'm reaching out to ask if you would be open to sharing new safety resources to your page, https://ofarc.org/documents/hurricane_info.htm?

Debris caused by hurricanes can expose homeowners, emergency workers and volunteers participating in the cleanup process to hazardous materials that can contain asbestos. Asbestos exposure is the leading cause of mesothelioma cancer. The amount of debris that piles up after a hurricane is significant and can quickly overwhelm a community and breakdown normally strict guidelines for handling hazardous materials.

We've put together a great guide on what to know about asbestos during natural disasters, including risks associated with hurricane debris and asbestos. Please take a look:

https://www.asbestos.com/asbestos/natural-disasters/#what-to-do-during-a-hurricane

I believe our resource offers some unique, but important information. Would you consider adding it to your page to better inform your community?

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response!

Sincerely,

Jose Soler

Outreach Coordinator
