Winterheat 2022
So we are well into day number 4 of the event and already we have over 11,500 contacts made. That's an average of over 3,500 contacts made per day.
## THIS IS AMAZING...
To put it into perspective, WINTERHEAT2021 at its conclusion had just shy of 50,000 contacts made. We have just over 20% of that number and it is only day #4
There are still quite a number of people who still have not made any contacts at all.
**What are you waiting for?** Get on the air, that is why this event was conceived!

Brad, W9REK made his first Winterheat contact on January 1, 2022. Even better, it was Brad’s first ever QSO as a new ham! He made contact with Jerry, NA9LE, using a Yaesu FT70D handheld into a Comet GP9 vertical antenna. Their contact was 13 miles from Brad’s QTH in Marseilles, IL to Jerry’s OTH in Ottawa, IL.

This map shows the 19 states in which participants have logged contacts.
Steve, K9SHY combined a Parks on the Air Activation with Winterheat and sent us this story. He has 74 Winterheat contacts. Thanks Steve!
I finally pulled off a VHF/UHF only activation. It only took 11 minutes to log the first 10. I finished with 19 at 33 minutes. K-7635 is close enough to town to be handy on a VHF/UHF contest month.
I used 147.525, 147.570, 446.7, 223.40, 145.79 DMR, and 446.075 DMR, I called that I was listening for contacts on 147.570. Five guys answer the call and we quickly, give full quieting to each other and I tell them to move up, we do the same thing on 147.525, etc., at the end I had nine QSO’s. I go back to 147.57 and called, listening for contacts again. One guy says, “Hey we didn’t get DMR U.” I said I’ll meet you there, and that was ten in the log. The other nine were with three other people doing the same thing. I didn’t plan on activating this way today, I just wanted three more bands for N1CC at this park.
I use a printed spreadsheet that has the frequencies across and a spot to enter the call and time on the right. I just check the frequency as I talk to each person. And that is how I activated a park using VHF/UHF. The contest is called Winterheat 2022, while most players are in the Midwest people anywhere are invited.
