[OFARC] Jamming Cuba??

I’ve looked at the signals from this station and re-ran the time of arrival plots several times. The signals look like data transmissions rather than jamming. The time difference of arrival for these signals plots all over the place but it appears to be from Caribbean on several of the runs but also plots in Mexico and central America. Simple enough to send or receive a burst coded message that can defeat “jamming” across the spectrum. A healthy dose of skepticism is always good with this stuff.

Hey Ralph,

This video from KI6NAZ's YouTube channel shows how to use triangulation of KiwiSDR stations around the americas to deduce that the location of the jamming signal. Spoiler alert: it's originating near "Western Cuba". I thought that it was pretty cool use of existing Ham radio tech!

They're affectionately calling the jammer "The Cuban Rum Runner" ( lol ) and he's been with us since at least July 15th. Hope that you find it interesting!

Normally I see several FT8 signals from Cuba each day, but the past few days none. Last night I noticed a wide band of unusual interference on 40m. It extended from 7.05 to 7.2 with white noise punctuated by clicks.

Steven says he has seen the same thing for 2 days.

I suggest we monitor HF bands for unusual interference and report anything unusual to ARRL.

Since we are in Houston Texas it is a short hop to Cuba.
