Subject: 2m Yagi-Uda homebrew antenna

Colleagues,

Good evening. This is a picture of my homebrew 2m Yagi-Uda antenna. It's enabling me to hit the KA5QDG repeater from Katy, about 23 miles as the crow flies. It's amazing how directional it is. You pivot the antenna by ~30degrees either way from the repeater's azimuth and the received signal becomes noticeably noisier.

BTW, the center pole is a shower curtain rod and the elements are bent-out coat hangers. The feedpoint is reinforced with 2 chopsticks.

It's interesting how the Yagi-Uda design reinforces wavefronts in one direction while using destructive interference to attenuate the wavefronts in most other directions. Only element "E" is the driven dipole, the rest are parasitic reflector/directors that resonate "out of phase".

Have a great holiday!
