RE: ARRL Section Manager Election Forum
The forum was interesting. Not as well attended as it could have been given
the publicity but many of the "regulars" (ARES, Hospital group, various club
presidents, repeater owners and trustees) were there. Dom, me and Barry
were there from the club. Several of the other ARRL reps were also there.
My general reaction is John Stratton had a more coherent platform than
Madison Jones, with concrete answers to specific questions. Stratton's
responses shows he knows the ins and outs of the League. Jones acknowledged
he has no experience but points out that lack of experience does not
necessarily disqualify someone who is looking to affect policy.
Unfortunately we missed an opportunity to have both candidates attend our
club meeting since they were in Houston the night before. Stratton is
interested in cycling through the various club meetings to meet the members
and get a picture of how clubs are operating. Stratton said the League has
kind of shortchanged the clubs focusing on other issues at the executive
level and that new initiatives are being developed to better support the
clubs from HQ and at the Section level. These and other issues were
covered on the livestream feed that Ralph forwarded before.

After the meeting Mike Hardwick from BVARC floated his idea to resurrect the
former Houston area radio club which, would meet quarterly with the
objective of improving communication between clubs and discuss issues
relevant to the hobby, share resources, etc. Sounded like a good idea to
me. This would be aimed at the Pres/VPs of the clubs. Barry was so noticed
and I mentioned this to Hal before he went partying for the week in Vegas.
So, there it is.
