Thanks Larry
Yeah .... Richard reminded me about the RTTY RU.
I do remember reading about it and the article specified different frequencies for FT8.
It feels like I saw the "RU" exchange sometime last week, but I have not been sleeping well and it could have been just yesterday .....
Thanks to all!
Ralph

Hi Ralph,
The "RU" in the CQ call line is to let listeners know they are calling CQ for the ARRL RTTY RoundUp Contest that was this past weekend. It was the first contest that had FT8 as an official mode.
The reply you received was the official exchange for the contest. The 549 was your signal report, formatted in traditional CW style. MI was the state he was operating from. State, Provence and country are used in calculating the score.
They really should not have been using the RTTY RoundUp contest exchange on the normal FT8 frequencies. There were different frequencies used for the contest.
By the way, I made 320 FT8 contacts during the contest.

Subject: [OFARC] ft8 question
last week i noticed some stations using "RU" on the CQ line
for example
CQ RU KB1EFS FN42 U.S.A.
when I answered, he sent
KE5HDF K8EET 549 MI
What is the "RU" about??
I have not found it as an abbreviation, contest exchange, or in the FT8 manual.
Thanks,
Ralph
