My thoughts on the two locations being considered
Ralph KE5HDF
TRANSTAR
The location is just north of I-10, just inside loop 610
(Think just north of Memorial park)

Houston, Texas 77024
This location will certainly be closer to my home
1. Many positives as Mark says in his note below
2. Can we do JOTA from this location?
3. Can we do field day from this location?
4. If we can do field day, can we grill outside or have access to a kitchen?
5. Mild negatives
* No longer in the Oak Forest area
* May be nuisance getting everyone trained and approved for entry
* May not be able to do hands-on/build projects
OAKS PRESP. CHURCH
Location about a mile east of the lodge along W 43rd
And ½ block south
1. Still in Oak forest area
2. Has space to do JOTA and Field Day
3. Need to find out about doing build projects
4. Area is familiar to all club members
5. Question – Any Fees??? like rent, utilities, clean up
6. Is there Access to a kitchen for field day??

Subject: [OFARC] Oak Forest ARC New Location for Club
All:
I have leveraged my contacts with folks at ARES and TRANSTAR regarding a new home for the club, and have received a positive response. The exact details are being worked out but it appears that the club can have a home at Transtar and we can use the conference center at the facility for meetings, testing and other club-related activities. This is a first class facility.
The Transtar option has a number of significant advantages for the club including:
Good location.
Long-term stability.
Ham friendly.
EOC / ARES interaction / training / support.
Probable use of the existing radio room which includes HF VHF/UHF DStar DMR equipment.
Elevated profile in the Ham community for the club and its members.
Some security clearances and access cards are required so we will need to work through these details with ARES / Transtar. There may be some insurance items that need to be covered under our policy which we will check. I have suggested that we consider having things finalized for the August meeting. This should give us time to sort through the details and make a transition.
We should have a vote on this at the Field Day meeting. Looks like a no brainer to me.
