A lot has happened over the past 2 months that is related to JOTA
*	We got an opportunity to state the case for JOTA to a member of the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC)
*	The ARRL got involved
*	ARRL S. Texas Section has given a presentation to SHAC
*	The dream of a local scouter has been re-energized … have an emergency net for scouts
*	A drive has started for Scout Camps on the Air (SCOTA) … to be an all year effort

Pending:
*	ARRL s. Texas section will work with Scouts to develop a way to link up radio operators and scouts
*	Presentation to SHAC of more detailed plans for SCOTA and other radio/scout activities

Things for OFARC to do:
*	Please read the note below and if you can help with either of the requests, respond to Les (Kb0mef at arrl.net <mailto:Kb0mef at arrl.net> ) or at Lee (w5lhc at arrl.org <mailto:w5lhc at arrl.org> ) as appropriate
*	Please be aware we need to renew our MB counselor application every year in January and update YPT every 2 years.
*	If there is a scout both at the Greater Houston Hamfest, I suggest we need to visit the booth for a first hand updated. Perhaps we could lend support by helping staff the booth.
*	I will continue to monitor interactions between ARRL and SHAC and let the club know if there is anything with which we can be involved.
*	The club can continue our outreach to local scout troops and packs and plan on hosting JOTA event at the lodge if the members wish.

Subject: Scouting needs in STX - Can you help?

CQ CQ
The following two items are seeking some hams interested in working with the Scouting community. Please reach out to Les if you can help or are interested.

Assistance sought to work with Scouts Need To Move Tower

Is there someone who could lead a tower and antenna project?

Is there anyone (I think in the greater Houston area?) that can help out a friend of Amateur Radio in Scouting?

Scouter Patrick Snyder has a crank up tower donated to the Scouts, I believe from the Davis Estate. He needs someone with the technical experience to guide the project in lowering, moving and installation of the tower and antennas.

Scouter Patrick Snyder is going to be a primary resource of Scouting contacts. He will be extremely valuable in developing new operators in the Scouting community over the next few months and years. He is in the process of setting up a Scouters Ham Radio workshop complete with permeant station. Just need antennas.

If so, Please contact Les-

Also:
SCOTA (Scout Camps On The Air), is looking for Scouts, parents and adult Scout leaders willing to participate in a BETA program of amateur radio. www.scota.us/ <http://www.scota.us/> SCOTA is an every day event with a minimum of 5 scouts or youth and 2 adults.

Goal: Introduce youth to amateur radio by getting them on the air.
The purpose of SCOTA is to increase exposure of amateur radio to the scouting organization in hopes of fostering interest in the hobby of HAM radio, teaching technical skills with regard to radio operating and creating goodwill among fellow Scouts and amateur radio Operators alike.
If you would like to participate and learn about the hobby of amateur radio please contact your local Ham Radio Club.
Contact Les for more details.
