This is the note I sent to scouts and some teachers about Field Day.
If you have a group you would like to invite to Field Day, you are welcome to use any or all of it.

Perhaps someone could contact the Oak forest Community Association????

Subject: Fw: An Invitation to Radio field Day in June

Two of the primary reasons for the amateur radio service to exist is to provide public services and communications in the event of an emergency. Amateur radio operators have provided communications for Houston Grand Prix, the Marathon, rodeo, and scouting events. We have been activated as weather watchers during wild weather and to provide communications in the wake of floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earth quake, wild fires, ships in distress, etc.

Every year, ham radio operators across the USA set aside a weekend to practice setting up and operating under pressure and without benefit of our normal stations. We set up antennas in the morning and run on generators or batteries (plus caffeine) for about 36 hours.

The event is called “field day”.
It is used to not only practice our skills, but also to reach out to the public to demonstrate what we do and enjoy the camaraderie of others in our hobby.
Our club members would be happy to demonstrate different aspects of radio operations (including Morse code, and sending text messages and photos)
Under the rules governing our licenses, we can even let you get on the air yourself ... even though you do not have a license.

This year (2016) the “Field Day” will happen June 25 & 26.
We will start setting up about 0900 Saturday and will run until late Saturday.
(A few brave souls may stay around the clock until 1PM Sunday.)

The club I am in will be setting up in a Masonic Lodge up in Oak Forest
It is located at 4721 Watonga drive Houston Texas 77092 (just north of 610 and east of TC Jester).
The lodge is about 10 minutes NW of SHAC HQ, or 30 minutes from Sugarland

I have included a map below my signature.

Come on out and play for a while .......(the best time to visit would be Saturday between 1 PM and 7 pm)
If you will be brining a large group, please let us know so we can make preparations.

Regards,
Ralph Phillips
