JOTA 2016 will be Oct 14-16
I have built a short table (see below) to list a few of the issues we encountered at council headquarters last year and the solutions mentioned so far.
Add any other considerations you come up with ....
Please think about the question posed at the meeting ..... “Do we hold JOTA at council HQ and the lodge or only at the lodge?”
By my thinking the alternatives are:
a.. set up in the same place as last year, use headphones with splitters and put a station with computer in a tent, we may be able to work at HQ again
b.. get a room on the N or W sides of the building and find a way to run cables through windows
c.. just set up at the lodge
Send me your comments and be ready to discuss at the next meeting.

ISSUE AT COUNCIL HQ
POSSIBLE SOLUTION
CONCERNS WITH SOLUTION
DOES THIS PROBLEM OCCUR AT THE LODGE?
high levels of ambient noise from the highway
setting up indoors
How to Run cables from outdoor antenna to the indoor radios
NO – radios can be indoors
Set up on the patio
If antennas are on the patio, they are shielded by the building – poor transmit and receive
use headphones
None??
Poor antenna performance with antennas on patio
Raise antenna on weather balloon
Need to get antenna above the building which will require about 100ft of cable. (Not too hard to do.)
NO
Put antennas somewhere else and run LONG cables
Long cables are high $$ and add signal loss
high levels of radio static from an unknown source
may be able to filter some out
Filters attenuate desired signals
NO
Bright outside light makes reading computer screen almost impossible for digital modes
Shield screen
Tried several solutions, have not found one that works yet
NO – radios can be indoors
Put computer & radio in a tent
???
Put station with computer indoors
How to Run cables from outdoor antenna to the indoor radios
NO – radios can be indoors
