I got some updated information on the repeater from Mike Mustachia KF5PHA.
It explains why I am having problems from my home at hwy 59 and W Airport
See below .........

Several people on the south and SW side of town have reported poor signal lately.
The 444.300 repeater is on a 40+ story building off of San Felipe. The building's roof is being repaired. The antenna being used currently was moved to the north side and is a temporary antenna.

The repeater is on 24/7 but on timer to link to various reflectors across the country for scheduled nets.
Other times it works like any other local repeater.

  thanks for the replies
I tired the radio in my truck when I went to pick my son up from school ....hit the repeater just fine.
So, I checked the settings and put the same ones into my radio at home .... no joy
the antenna SWR is 1.05-1.1, but it is up in a tree and could have fallen over to be horizontal.
I guess the next thing is to climb the tree and take a look!

No Ralph it's still up. It uses a tone of 123.0 but the repeater is on a schedule and only turned on when linked to an active net otherwise it's switched off and not usable. Usually it's up between 9am and 2pm just listen for it during those times.

I have been off Houston UHF for a while and used to listen to 444.300
Now I can’t raise it and it is not listed in the on-line database I use for repeaters.
  has something happened?

  Thanks
