December JOTA Newsletter
2015 results were reasonable with Scout participation down 8%, stations registered stayed the same along with station reports. However, only 60% of those who registered filed a station report. As a result, we have a report on only a portion of the activity.
The total number of Scout councils involved dropped from 149 to 127. Therein lies our big challenge – getting the word out to local Scout councils about the biggest Scouting event in the world and how they can participate. You can see the report at http://www.k2bsa.net/jota-usa-reports/ or click on the image nearby.

Radio Scouting Blog
Walter Underwood, K6WRU, has been publishing his blog Most Casual Observer for quite some time. You'll want to check out his entries on Radio Scouting that include The Operator Patch, Hike Safely, Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge (and Beyond), and Patrol Camping.
KD2FIL's Road to Amateur Radio
Here's a great story of one man's road to amateur radio that began with Scouting and continues with Scouting.
Check it out at KD2FIL's Road to Amateur Radio.
National Parks on the Air
In case you missed it, ARRL is running a National Parks on the Air Program throughout 2016. You can find all the details at NPOTA 2016. This is a great way to activate amateur radio in your Scouting activities.
JOTA Required for Awards
The Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award's Building a Better World Adventure has a requirement that the Scout participate in Jamboree on the Air or Jamboree on the Internet. You can learn more at Arrow of Light. In addition, the International Spirit Award has a similar requirement. Find out more here. These are two more reasons Scouts will be interested in participating in your JOTA event in 2016.
ARRL Radio Waves Newsletter
The Fall 2015 Radio Waves Newsletter, news for license instruction and radio science education, has a superb article by Ron Ocho, KO0Z, on the Radio Merit Badge. You can find it at Fall Radio Waves Newsletter.
K2BSA Calendar
We've added a page with the full calendar of K2BSA call sign activations and Scouting related special events. You can find it at K2BSA Calendar. We hope the full calendar helps you find openings for use of the K2BSA/x call sign for your special event. If the K2BSA call sign isn't available, you can apply for a 1 x 1 call sign at http://www.1x1callsigns.org
K2BSA 2017 Jamboree Vision
We've developed a short document that captures the essence of our plans for the K2BSA operation at the 2017 National Jamboree. Click on the image or follow this link K2BSA Jamboree Vision. If you're interested in serving on the Jamboree staff, here's how — Jamboree Volunteers.
During your Holiday shopping take into account the K2BSA Amateur Radio Association and their participation in the Amazon Smile Program. Click on this link K2BSA Amazon Smile or the image above.
