Last year, we at the Oak Forest Amateur Radio Club agreed to be Special Needs Club, with the emphasis on helping those with vision and other impairments to get their Ham licenses, obtain equipment, and otherwise enjoy the fellowship of Amateur radio.
We had a successful display and outreach at the 2010 American Council Of The Blind of Texas State Convention here in Houston. Thanks to all who participated. Information was supposedly gathered on Blind hams and those interested in the hobby. Two persons from the Houston Council of the Blind were coming to our meetings regularly, ostensibly with the prospects of getting into Ham radio. Do I need to apologize to those whom we contacted from across Texas, assuming I can get their contact information from whomever has it? I am disappointed in the outcome of our ACBT efforts and pray something is done to rectify the obvious lack of follow-up, leadership, and commitment to our club's stated goals.
