Effective this Monday, September 15, the Western Nevada Noon Net will
commence each day at noon on the 147.210/147.150 linked repeater system.
This change will expand our coverage area from the immediate Reno/Sparks
vicinity to include a large area of Northwest Nevada. Communities
included in the coverage area of this system are Carson City,
Minden/Gardnerville, Silver Springs, Fallon, and several other
surrounding areas. Additionally, the 147.150 will provide coverage into
California including the Lake Tahoe Basin, Northern Mono County, Alpine
County, the Truckee area (Nevada and Placer Counties), Plumas County,
Lassen County, and areas of the Southern Sacramento and Northern San
Joaquin Valleys.
The Western Nevada Noon Net started around this time last year as a
traffic handling/bulletin/social net serving Reno/Sparks and immediately
surrounding areas. The net has been very sucessful and draws on average
of 12 checkins each day. With the expanded coverage area we expect this
number to increase. Regular participants have routinely represented all
the Reno area clubs, and the announcements they bring regarding their
clubs' activities has made the net a great source of information
regarding happenings in the local amateur community. The expanded
coverage of the net on this repeater system will open the doors for
amateur radio organizations in surrounding area to bring forth
announcement regarding happenings in their local areas as well.
Many thanks to Net Manager Doug Abramson - KA7FOO, Tony Marcin - KB7PDE,
and the Wide Area Data Group of Reno for making this change possible.
