Friday, April 18 - Doolittle Raid Anniversary
In 1942, sixteen B-25's were loaded on board the USS Hornet CV-8 here at
NAS Alameda. Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle then led the Army Air Corps squadron
on a mission that was to boost American morale and become a turning point
of WWII.
Please join us on April the 18th and 19th, 2003 as we remember this
historic event. The Radio Spaces of the USS Hornet will be in full
operation. We will be operating SSB, CW and RTTY. IRLP Operators: Listen
for us on Node #5110. The SSB frequencies are 3.857, 7.260, 14.320, 21.320
and 28.320. The CW frequencies are 3.530, 7.030, 14.030, 21.030 and 28.030.
RTTY frequencies will be announced. The ship's call is NB6GC. It is now
"Good in the book".
Please SASE for QSL. We also offer what we refer to as a "Complete QSL
Package". It includes a Shoulder Patch, A Certificate, A CD-ROM with over
200 photos of the ship and of course the QSL Card. We ask a donation of
$7.50 for this package. (Notice: There are about 30 packages on hold right
now because of a Shoulder Patch supply problem from the manufacturer. We
expect the patches in any day and your items will ship ASAP. Thank you for
your patience.)
If your Northern California Radio Club would like a live presentation of
the operations and progress of the USS Hornet ARC, please contact W6GER.
Find out how you can help preserve such an important part of our history.
We look forward to working you on April 18th and 19th. We usually start on
the low bands and work our way up as the day progresses. Many stations have
contacted us expressing their regret that they have missed us in the past.
Here's your chance to make it
