Hi Todd -

Years ago, that repeater on Fox Mountain (and the six meter remote base)
were linked back to a 2 meter machine in Reno - and over to a UHF
machine in Winnemucca as well. Although the 2 meter repeater still
shows in the coordination database, I have not heard anything on that
frequency (145.330) or heard anything about the repeater since I moved
back to this area in 1997. That's the extent of my knowledge about that
system.

The 146.700 repeater in Winnemucca is part of the Sierra Nevada Amateur
Radio Society's (SNARS) linked repeater system that includes the 147.390
repeater near Lovelock and 146.610 repeater here in the Reno area. The
link to Winnemucca is down and has been that way for some time. What is
reported to me is that the plug connecting the link radio to the
controller needs to be replaced and maybe some antenna work as well. I
had plans to meet up with someone out there last Wednesday and get this
fixed, but that fell apart. Will likely be a week from this Wednesday
before I can try again due to another ham radio project that needs to be
done this week - although it is possible this could get fixed without
me. Hope to have that done real soon - would be great to talk to you
locomotive mobile out there! (Maybe the 147.39 would work out around
Jungo/Antelope?)

Say hi to Rod, Steve, and the others around the museum in Portola. With
all the radio stuff I've been involved in I haven't had much time to
spend up there this summer.

Was curious if the 440 repeater on Fox near Gerlach is linked into
another system. I recall making a few contacts off it with guys on
52.525 simplex. Had occasion to be out in the area last week thanks to
the UPRR, and
gave a couple of shouts but no joy in yaking with anyone. Come to think
of it, same goes for the 146.70 out in Winnemucca...Listened all day,
called a couple of times, yet never heard a peep...Anyway I'm usually
Locomotive mobile out there - so just trying to pass the time....
