It's just over a week away from the SNARS September Picnic! We've added
a couple of "attractions" to the event that I would like to make
everyone aware of:
1. TAILGATE SWAPMEET: If you have anything you wish to sell, trade, or
otherwise dispose of (no dumping!), bring it along - we'll do some good
old-fashioned horse trading!
2. SPECIAL EVENT: September 6 marks the beginning of the annual "Route
66 On The Air Event". 13 stations will be operating daily from various
points along the old "Mother Road" from the 6th through the 14th. We
will be setting up HF gear and attempting to make contacts with some of
the special event stations during our picnic on this opening day of the
event.
3. PRESENTATION?: Tom - K5RC and Kurt - K7NV made a great presentation
last weekend at the CVRC Meeting about the Northern California Contest
Club's plan to try to corner the multi-op category for the November
Sweepstakes this year. If either or both of these gentlemen are
available on the 6th, I will be inviting them to make this presentation
again at the picnic. More details to follow.
Again, the picnic will take place from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M on Saturday,
September 6. The location will be the Gator Swamp Park at the end of
Egyptian Drive in Spanish Springs. The event is open to all hams and
those interested in amateur radio. SNARS will provide hamburgers and
hot dogs for the attendees - those coming are asked to bring potluck
items as follows:
If your last name begins with A - I, please bring a side dish
If your last name begins with J - R, please bring a dessert
If your last name begins with S - Z, please bring drinks (sodas, water,
juice, etc.)
This picnic will take the place of SNARS' usual club breakfast for the
month of September. This will also be the third quarter business
meeting for the club and, as a reminder, nomination of candidates for
the 2004 Board of Directors will be held at this meeting. SNARS members
should therefore plan to attend this important meeting; the meeting will
be called to order at 12:30. Seating at the picnic tables in the
pavilion is limited, so you may wish to bring lawn chairs or blankets to
sit on. Also, so that there are no surprises, all are reminded that
restroom facilities at this park consist of a single porta-potty (didn't
want anyone to be unpleasantly surprised by this arrangement upon
arrival). Please RSVP to me as soon as possible if you plan to attend -
we need to have some idea of how much to buy in terms of the hamburgers
and hot dogs.

Matt, N7TOD
