Folks
I have been participating in the Appalachian Trail Golden Packet event for the past 4 years.
It is a lot of fun and educational in the ins and outs of APRS.
The Apple Orchard Mountain location is a drive up location and easily accessible as opposed to my site (Comers Rock which is like climbing the stairs of a 13 story building).
Please join in and help the program succeed.

Folks,
*Appalachian Trail (AT) Golden Packet Event:* Please pass to your
membership: If interested in a road trip to the Roanoke area on Jul 19th, The Appalachian Trail (AT) Golden Packet radio team is looking for a Ham to scale Apple Orchard Mountain (elevation 4224 ft) and set up a Kenwood radio which supports UIFLOOD. There is a road and parking available near the planned set up area. See:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Orchard_Mountain
The event involves select Hams located along the AT from Springer Mountain in George to Mt Katahdin in Maine. Their goal is to pass a defined, ?Golden? message*?a packet -- the length of the AT. The ATGP team has a specially configured Kenwood D710G radio for you to borrow (if needed), tho you?ll need to supply a battery and omnidirectional antenna, and commit to being available and onsite on 7/19 - arrive at 10:00 AM, on the air by
11:00 AM. The event wraps up around 14:00.
*While the event has been successful in the past, it?s failed the past 5 years in a row. Adding Apple Orchard Mountain as a relay station will hopefully break the trend! Please consider helping and be part of a team successfully passing the Golden Packet! If interested contact: Jeff Hochberg, W4JEW, 470-484-8010 , jeff at w4jew.com
Finally, pass along to your membership the 13 Colonies Special Event is coming up starting on 1 July. http://13colonies.us/
*13 Colonies Special Event:* Make the 13 Colonies event a fun competition ? a radio sport ? and see how many in your club can get a clean sweep of all the K2* stations. More details at: http://13colonies.us/
