Folks,
Jeff Hochberg, organizer of the AT Golden Packet event, needs help for the
Roanoke segment of the event. What is the "AT Golden Packet" event? I'm
glad you asked, here are extracts from the emails I've received:
quote:
The Appalachian Trail Golden Packet is described at:
https://www.atgoldenpacket.net/
In a nut shell, licensed amateur radio operators coordinate 15+ sites along
the length of the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia, and use HTs w/
APRS capability to exchange packet data between each site with the goal of
sending the "golden packet" the entire length of the trail!
They're looking for a Ham to set up a packet station on the trail near
Roanoke on Jul 19th
If you review what follows and are amenable to this approach, we would be
ELATED! The event is teetering on not being able to happen because of this
staffing issue at Apple Orchard Mountain. You would be preventing us from
having to cancel the event for the first time in history since Bob (WB4APR
- aka Uncle Bob) first ran the event in 2009.
You may reach Jeff at jeff at w4jew.com if you'd like more info.
If anyone who shows interest wants to know more, please ask them to reach
out to me directly.
We have a monthly meeting this coming Tuesday night (10JUN) from 19:30 to
21:00 EDT, if anyone is interested in joining. This will be an informal
session where we discuss the logistics, etc., as they relate to the event,
which is currently ~40 days away.

I hope someone can help out.
