Everyone, below are the minutes of the last club meeting. My thanks to Cam
and Chris for taking notes since I had to work that night. As usual please
let me know if any corrections are needed.

2/26/2024
New River Valley Amateur Radio Club
Meeting held at the Library Service Center due to a conflict at the
Blacksburg Fire House.
Meeting called to order at 7:15 PM

Introduction of officers
*Reports*
Secretary’s Report – Cam Coble for Edward Lener
The January meeting minutes were sent to the club reflector on 2/24.
Corrections were made regarding donations for the Eat and Meet event.
Treasurer’s Report – Steve Allen
Membership renewals for 2024 continue to come in. Please get them in if you
have not already done so.
WinLink Update – Danny Wylam.
Made a trip up to Brush Mountain to check out WinLink. Everything now seems
to be working well.
Repeater Update – Mike Herring
Everything seems to be working well.
Discussion about looking into setting up a 220 MHz repeater on Peaks Knob.
Club Donation Acknowledgements – Cam Coble
There were no recent donations.
*Old Business*
Club Shirts – Cam Coble
Black polo shirt. Cost will be approximately $51 plus $5 for call sign.
Please get your orders in by March 1.
Winter Field Day – Cam Coble
Event was held Saturday, Jan 27th at the Appalachian Conference Center in
Dublin. Had 18 people sign in and 10 people making contacts.
*New Business*
Silent Keys – Cam Coble
Want to send a gift from the club when a member becomes a silent key. Jim
Hassell made a motion and Len Sutphin seconded to allow up to $75 per
individual for a dish garden or other donation as appropriate.
Discuss Replacement of Kenwood TS-430S – Cam Coble
Want to purchase an FT-710 as a newer replacement. Len Sutphin made a
motion to purchase the FT-710 after an auction is held to sell the old
Kenwood. Motion passed unanimously.
Auction discussion ended with initial pricing for Kenwood TS-430S set at
$100, and microphone at $50. Auction would be for 2 weeks.
Club has been approached to provide support for a new race event in Catawba
and New Castle. Need to clarify expectation. Will need a map of route and
checkpoints. Want to focus on providing emergency and essential
communications only.
Discussion about supplementing different youth scouting programs with
amateur radio related presentations/events. More information will be
gathered for future discussion.
New Member Applications – Cam Coble
Had one new member application. This was reviewed and approved for
membership after a vote.

*Blings n Things* – “Mic Master Madness”
Members were asked to display and discuss their favorite microphones and
how they enhance communication.
Cam brought a microphone test station to demonstrate.
