The issue with the repeater is something that has been going on for a few
years that I know of.
We have times where something is getting into the repeater and setting it
off, creating what sounds to me like a feedback loop.
We'll disable it if we hear it for the time being, but we are working on it.
So far, we have narrowed it down to the Cloyd repeater, and it's not
related to:
- Winlink
- Winlink Duplexer (we share the 440 link to Brush Mt. with the 144 winlink
setup)
- Antenna
- Other Radio equipment shared on the mountain (not ruling out the internet
services up there)
- Preamp
- Power supply
- Air conditioning
We just had our duplexer evaluated and repaired, and will hopefully be
re-installing it tomorrow evening.
Next plan is to enable the Kenwood radio equipment already on site as a
replacement of the existing Motorola radios.
We need to do things systematically, and one thing at a time so that we
figure out what the real problem is, and that we are good stewards of
club funds.
Also, this is not a repeatable thing, so it's hard to actually travel to
the mountain to check things out when it happens. I have heard other area
repeaters doing similar things, so we're not so special.
My suspicion is that there is a mix of signals that is creating the issue
and causing feedback. We just don't know what that is.
73!
