This would be a great opportunity Danny!
I would like Veterans Day as the target date. That would be more
meaningful, and we could also attract others' interests while at the event.
As far as explaining to the folk at the site, here's my suggestion:
- Explain that it's like a temporary two-way radio station using special
frequencies that would allow for other ham operators around the world to
make contact with us on-site
- Let them know that there are many veterans that are ham operators that
look forward to these type events to feel connected to their
brothers-in-arms (example Audie Murphy)
- Let them know our operation will be noisy (conversation level), so we
wouldn't want to disturb any quiet areas
- The footprint would be under a 10x10 canopy
- The only odd thing of our setup would be the antenna and that would be
part of a discussion of the site location
I would also suggest that we would keep the event small (1 transmitter?)
for the initial outing, see how it goes, and develop plans based on lessons
learned for any future events.
There's my 2 cents! ;)
