New River Valley Amateur Radio Club

Meeting held at the Blacksburg Fire Station #3



Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM

*Reports*

Secretary’s Report – Edward Lener

The February meeting minutes were sent to the club reflector on 3/24. No
corrections or additions were received.



Treasurer’s Report – Steve Allen

One new member and one additional renewal. Spent about $839 for club
shirts, should get all that back as people pick them up and pay for them.
Earned $280 from auction of old Kenwood TS-430S radio and accompanying
microphone. Paid annual state corporation commission fee.  Made a donation
of $75 to the Giles County Animal Shelter on behalf of silent key Max Orr.



WinLink Update – Danny Wylam.

Had a power outage so had to turn computer back on. Otherwise everything
seems to be working well.



Repeater Update – Mike Herring

Everything is sound good right now.



Club Donation Acknowledgements

There were no recent donations.



*Old Business*

Auction Results – Christopher Peters

Rick Armstrong had the high bids of $215 for the Kenwood TS-430S HF
Transceiver and $65 for the Kenwood MC-43S Microphone in the march madness
auction.  Steve Allen has now place an order for the new Yaesu FT-710 which
will replace it.



Club Shirts – Steve Allen

Shirts are now available for pickup. Individual amounts may vary based on
size and whether they have been personalized with a call sign. Please pay
promptly for your orders so we get the funds back in the club treasury.



*New Business*

Presentation on HAMSCI – Sarah Over, KQ4NQO

Recently licensed operator Sarah Over shared information the scientific
efforts of HAMSCI and details on plans for activities surrounding the April
8th total solar eclipse.



Audie Murphy Special Event – Danny Wylam

This is now our 5th year doing the event. Will do further planning and
discussion at the April club meeting.



Field Day Planning – Christopher Peters for Cam Coble

Cam has reserved the shelter at Randolph Park for June 22-23rd. Will do
further planning and discussion at the April club meeting.



*Blings n Things* – “Soldering Superstars”



Members were asked to showcase their homebrew or modified equipment,
emphasizing their soldering skills.
