5/24/2023
New River Valley Amateur Radio Club
Meeting held at the Pulaski County School Board Building. In addition, a
simultaneous Zoom session was held.
Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM
Welcome from Cam Coble as President
Introduction of officers
*Reports*
Secretary’s Report – Edward Lener
The April meeting minutes were sent to the club reflector on May 20. No
corrections or additions were received. Thanks to Cam for taking good notes.
Treasurer’s Report – Steve Allen
Club is in good standing. Have now paid insurance and the state
corporation fee. Also paid for the 10 and 15 meter filters approved at the
last meeting
WinLink Update – Danny Wylam
Everything seems to be working fine.
Repeater Update – Mike Herring
Working well. Seems to be receiving better following recent work. Will
still need some custom cables. Also want to try to get new repeater on the
air if possible.
Club Donation Acknowledgments – Cam Coble
Club will receive 20% on items for sale from the estate of SK Larry
Simpson, N8UVH as a donation.
*Old Business*
Audie Murphy Special Event – Danny Wylam
Planned for June 3rd. Cam fixed link on the web site to point to the new
info. Plan to set up 3 stations for operating purposes. Hoping for drier
weather this year!
Field Day Planning – Cam Coble
Have confirmed reservation for June 24th and 25th at Randolph Park. Pete
will reserve a small generator. Will use DX Commander with triplexer for
80, 40 and 20 meters. Club will do hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch. Pete
will bring some coffee and paper products. Will have a radio rummage sale
Saturday morning and Christopher Peters will lead and educational activity
in the afternoon. Full schedule is on the club web site.
*New Business*
ARRL Membership Dues Survey – Cam Coble
Everyone who is an ARRL member is encouraged to fill this out. Gives a
chance for members to provide feedback on how they want their dues spent
and how they feel about a possible increase in membership dues.
Foxhunt – Cam Coble
Foxhunt and breakfast picnic social was held at Randolph Park. Three foxes
were hidden. Had eight participants and three other attendees. Hope to do
more foxhunts in the future.
Meeting Attendance – Cindy Turner
Cindy asked about the location of club meetings and possibility of changing
the venue. She mentioned that the new police station in Blacksburg has a
room that might work well. Cam indicated he would send a survey to gather
input from members.
*Blings n Things* –Go Kits
Members talked about components in their Go Kits.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM.
There were a total of 10 attendees (6 in-person, and 4 on Zoom)
Reminder – no club meeting in June due to Field Day.
