7/24/2023
New River Valley Amateur Radio Club
Meeting held at the Blacksburg Fire House. In addition, a simultaneous Zoom
session was held.
Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM
Welcome from Cam Coble as President
Introduction of officers
Thanks to Patrick Lloyd for suggesting and arranging for the new location.
*Reports*
Secretary’s Report – Edward Lener
The May meeting minutes were sent to the club reflector on June 12. No
corrections or additions were received.
Treasurer’s Report – Steve Allen
Club is in good standing. Field Day expenses totaled $341.75 (generator,
food , coffee, etc.) but we raised $600 from sale of items from Larry
Simpson’s estate and donations from Rick Barrow.
WinLink Update – Danny Wylam
Had issues with both the Brush Mountain and Cloyd installations. Had to do
computer updates for Brush Mountain. Cloyd station was down due to Internet
connectivity issues.
Repeater Update – Mike Herring
Working well. Have not heard feedback problems since cable was replaced.
Club Donation Acknowledgments – Cam Coble
Club received 20% on items for sale from the estate of SK Larry Simpson,
N8UVH as a donation.
Pete Burkey made a motion to donate $100 to the City of Refuge in Pulaski
(formerly the Rock Youth Center). The motion passed unanimously.

Field Day Review – Cam Coble
Cam shared a detailed report on the June Field Day Event. The greatest
number of contacts were on 40 meters but 80, 20, and 6m also had activity.

along with photos and related info. The club also discussed possible ways
to improve the event for next year.
Audie Murphy Special Event – Danny Wylam
There were 144 HF contacts. Also made 34 VHF contacts. Had special QSL
cards professionally made and will send them out to participants.
New Member Applications – Cam Coble

- Tom Beckett, N3VT
Both were approved for membership
Ben Williams informed everyone about the hamfest in Roanoke scheduled for
August 5th. He also shared info about upcoming testing sessions as well as
the Blue Ridge Bonanza on the Parkway planned for September 3rd.
*Blings n Things* –That’s Not Ham Radio
Members talked about other radio related activities. Christopher Peters
also shared details of his efforts to restore a vintage Hallicrafter
transceiver.
Meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM.
There were a total of 19 attendees (14 in-person, and 5 on Zoom)
